TAMPA, Fla. — No. 1 seed University of Tamps (40-14) scored three unearned runs in the sixth en route to a 3-1 win over No. 2 seed Delta State University baseball (42-13) in game one of the NCAA Super Regional on Friday at the UT Baseball Stadium.
The Statesmen took a 1-0 lead in the sixth when
Brett Young scored on a
Darek Sargent infield single only to see the Spartans respond with three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.
Delta State trails the best of three-game series 1-0 and will have to win two games on Saturday to advance to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament in Cary, N.C. Game two of the series is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) first pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was scoreless until the sixth when the Statesmen plated a run on four hits.
Weber Herbison, Young and
Hayden White singled to load the bases with one out. Young would come home when Sargent reached on an infield single. Tampa ended the threat by turning a line out double play.
• Tampa answered with three runs in the bottom half of the second. Drew Ehrhard and Danny Sirven singled and scored on a throwing error on a Steve Mangrum sac bunt attempt. Mangrum would score when the throw home on a Cole Perry ground ball was dropped.
ON THE MOUND

Hunter Riggins (11-4) took the loss for the Statesmen, allowing three unearned runs on seven hits for his third straight complete game.
• Keven Pimentel (12-2) gave up one run on seven hits with five strikeouts over 9.0 innings to earn the win for the Spartans.
NOTABLES
• The two clubs combined for five double plays in the game. Tampa turned three while the Statesmen turned two.
• Herrington, White, Sargent, Estave, Herbison and
Josh Russell each collected hits for the Statesmen.
• Despite the loss, Riggins is 3-1 and has yielded one earned run in 34 innings and three complete games in four postseason games.
