NCBWA All-American & All-Region Teams
CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Jake Barlow,
Hunter Riggins and
Dalton Minton garnered postseason honors announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday.
Barlow was named NCBWA Third-Team All-American and Riggins garnered NCBWA Honorable Mention All-American honors while the duo was also named ABCA First-Team All-South Region. Minton garnered ABCA All-South Region laurels to round out his senior season.
Barlow adds the honor to his list of postseason accolades that include First-Team All-Gulf South Conference and D2CAA and NCBWA First-Team-All-South Region. The Jonesville, La., native hit .322 while leading the Statesmen with 68 hits, 11 home runs, five triples, and 47 runs scored and a .588 slugging percentage while ranking second with 53 RBIs and 13 doubles. Barlow led the GSC in triples, ranked fourth in home runs, sixth in runs scored, slugging percentage and RBIs and seventh in hits. Barlow led the Green-and-White with 13 multi-RBI games and was second with 18 multi-hit games. Barlow's five triples ranked 23rd nationally.
Riggins was also named First-Team All-Gulf South Conference, D2CAA and NCBWA First-Team-All-South Region after posting an 11-4 record with a 1.88 ERA, 82 strikeouts against 33 walks while allowing 43 runs, 23 earned, on 97 hits in 110.0 innings pitched. The Hernando, Miss., native led the GSC in wins, ERA and innings pitched, ranked fourth in strikeouts and third in strikeouts looking. Riggins is sprinkled throughout the NCAA Division II Baseball Statistics, ranking ninth in wins and ERA and fifth in games started (16).
Minton, who garnered First-Team All-Gulf South Conference honors on May 5th, made 15 starts and one relief appearance on the mound this season. The Horn Lake, Miss., native went 11-3 with one save, a 2.62 ERA, 74 strikeouts against 34 walks while yielding 36 runs, 29 earned, on 83 hits in 92.2 innings pitched. Minton tied for first with Riggins in the GSC in wins (9th NCAA) while ranking third in innings pitched, fifth in ERA and 10th in strikeouts.
Delta State finished the season with a 42-14 record, winning the school's 15th Gulf South Conference Baseball title and advanced to the NCAA Division II South Super Regional in Tampa, Fla. The Statesmen made their 33rd postseason tournament appearance and posted their 15th 40-plus win season under Head Coach
Mike Kinnison.
