Valiant Effort from the Statesmen Comes Up Short Against UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Delta State men's basketball team lost a close contest against the University of Alabama Huntsville on Thursday night, 83-81, despite a career high scoring night from Keyshaun Street, who had 30 points. Airen Brooks recorded another double-double while setting a new career high in rebounds with 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With 17:46 left in the half the Chargers led the Statesmen led 9-6.
  • A three pointer from Austin Laatsch tied the game 9-9 with 6:54 remaining in the half.
  • The Chargers took back the lead 12-9 after a three of their own with 16:38 left.
  • Another clutch three from Laatsch tied the game 14-14 at the 15-minute mark.
  • Malik Cook-Stroupe for UAH had 12 of their first 14 points.
  • UAH took a five-point lead, 18-23 with 10:46 remaining.
  • Alabama Huntsville extended their lead too double-digits, 18-28 with 9:24 remaining in the first half.
  • The Statesmen cut the UAH lead to 31-24 after another shot from beyond the arch from Laatsch with 5:52 left.
  • With 2:57 remaining in the half the Chargers led by eleven,37-26.
  • By the end half Delta State cut the Charger lead to four, 40-36 with only three guys scoring any points..
  • With 15:58 left in the second half the Charger lead had been cut too two, 50-48.
  • After Keyshaun Street went 3-3 from the free throw line the Statesmen led 51-50 with 15:41 remaining.
  • The Chargers took back the lead 58-56 after a three from Sam Orf with 13:35 left on the clock.
  • Delta State reclaimed their lead 62-62 after another 3-3 performance by Street from the foul line with 12:07 remaining.
  • Halfway through the second half the Statesmen led UAH 68-64.
  • With 7:37 left in the game the Statemen lead had been cut down to one, 71-70.
  • A three pointer by Orf gave the Chargers a two-point lead, 73-71 with 6:55 left in the game.
  • At the 3:35 mark the Chargers led by four, 77-73.
  • With a minute remaining the Statesmen trailed by only two, 77-75.
  • With 25 seconds remaining, the Chargers led by four, 81-77.
  • A three pointer from Airen Brooks cut the Charger lead to one, 81-80 with five seconds remaining.
  • Anderson McCoy was fouled with 1.2 seconds left and he made the first free throw to make it 83-81.
  • McCoy purposely missed the second and the loose ball made it to Street who put up a three as time expired but it came up short.
TURNING POINT
  • The UAH bench outscored Delta State's 17-2. The Chargers also took advantage of the Statesmen's 17 turnovers.

  • Keyshuan Street broke his career high in scoring with 30 points. His former career high was a 24-point game against Lane on December 12th, 2019.
  • As Airen Brooks recorded another double-double he also set a new career high in rebounds with 19 boards along with 20 points.
