CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's basketball fell just short in a close contest with West Florida. Despite a career high night from
Austin Laatsch and another double-double from
Airen Brooks, the Statesmen were not going to able to make a complete comeback falling to the Argonauts 68-67. The Statesmen tied the ball game up with 30 seconds left after trailing by 13 points with 3:53 to go in the game. However, UWF was fouled as time expired and sank a free throw to win the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Florida took advantage of DSU turnovers to take an early 6-2 lead with 15:48 left in the first half.
- The Argonauts continued to lead 10-5 with 13:58 left in the first half.
- Thanks to a three pointer from Keyshaun Streets the Statesmen tied the game 13-13 with 10:17 remaining.
- With 9:46 remaining in the half Maalik Cartwright's dunk put DSU in the lead 15-13.
- UWF reclaimed their lead 19-17 at the 6:42 media timeout.
- Anderson McCoy's steal and layup for the Statesmen tied the game 22-22 with 5:27 left remaining.
- Austin Laatsch's three pointer with 4:40 remaining the half gave Delta State the 25-22 lead.
- Delta State maintained their three-point lead, 30-27 with 2:16 left in the first half.
- A layup and one by UWF's Chinedu Okonkwo tied the game 30-30 with 2:09 left. A free throw from Cameron Cox put UWF up 31-30 with 1:32 left.
- West Florida took a 35-32 lead into halftime.
- Delta State trimmed the UWF lead to 41-39 after Laatsch's three pointer with 14:39 remaining.
- Another three from Laatsch tied the game 42-42 with 13:46 left in the game.
- The Argonauts led 49-44 with 11:56 left in the game.
- West Florida still led the Statesmen 55-49 going into the 8:00 media timeout.
- UWF extended their lead to double-digits, 63-51 after a three from Daniel Soffield with 5:38 remaining.
- Delta State cut the UWF lead to 67-60 after a three from Laatsch with 2:33 remaining.
- A three from Brooks had the Statemen with in two, 67-65 with 1:16 left in the game.
- Brook's layup with :23 remaining tied the game at 67-67.
- A free throw from Tarik McKelphin gave UWF the 68-67 victory.
