MONTGOMERY, Ala. --
Maalik Cartwright scored 27 points in a back-and-forth contest, but the Delta State University men's basketball team fell one point short on Saturday afternoon to Auburn University Montgomery 84-83. The game featured 15 lead changes and nine ties and it was only the second win all-time that AUM has had over the Green-and-White.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delta State scored first on a runner from Airen Brooks, but AUM had a quick answer three from Maharrith Jackson.
- Anderson McCoy went on a 6-0 run by himself to give DSU a 15-14 lead, but had another answer. AUM used a 6-2 run of its own to make it 20-17 with 11 minutes to go in the half.
- The Statesmen went on another 6-0 run courtesy of Maalik Cartwright. He had nine points early as DSU led 29-25 with 6:22 to go in the half.
- DSU got Keyshaun Street going late in the half as he scored six straight points to help DSU on a 12-2 burst.
- Cartwright had 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the first half. There were ten lead changes in the first half.
- Brooks picked up three personal fouls in the first minute of the second half and had to go to the bench.
- AUM outscored DSU 11-6 early in the second half and lead 52-50 with 14:45 left in the game.
- Maalik began picking up some momentum. He was up to 20 points and six rebounds with 11 minutes to go in the game.
- An AUM layup gives them a six point lead and forced a timeout from the Statesmen. The Warhawks led 70-64 with 6:14 to go in the game.
- The Statesmen then answered with a 6-2 run to make it 72-70 with 4:12 to go in the game.
- Street then hit his third three of the game to make it a one-point deficit at 74-73 with 3:30 to go.
- Maharrith Jackson for AUM hit a three-point shot with 1:36 left in the game with Cartwright all over him to give the Warhawks a 1:16 left to give them a 81-76 lead.
- McCoy then scored a layup and was fouled but missed the free throw to make it 81-78 with 45 seconds left.
- Jeremiah Bozeman made two free throws for AUM and then blocked a Street three point attempt to make with 21 seconds left.
- Michael Motley hit a three with 0.7 seconds left to make it a one point game, but AUM ran out the clock to win 84-83.
TURNING POINT
- After Delta State cut the lead to just two points, Maharrith Jackson for AUM hit a three point shot with 1:36 left in the game with Cartwright all over him to give the Warhawks a 1:16 left to give them a 81-76 lead.
STAT OF THE GAME
- AUM was 18-for-21 from the free throw line while DSU was just 8-for-16 from the free throw line.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Cartwright ended the game two points shy of his career high, closing with 27 points. He also had eight rebounds and five assists.
- McCoy had 17 points, Street had 15, Brooks had 13, and Motley added 13 as well.
- The Statesmen only played six guys and only the starters scored points in the game.

- Delta State returns home for one final regular season game. The Statesmen will host Montevallo on Saturday, February 29 at 4 PM. It will be senior day as the DSU will honor two seniors, Anderson McCoy and Cam Burkett.
