GSC Women's Soccer Players to Watch | GSC Women's Soccer Top Newcomers
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State University women's soccer student-athletes
Carra Hymel and
Rylee McGee were listed on the Gulf South Conferences Returning Player Watch released on Thursday, Feb., 11, 2021.
Hymel, a junior, played in 17 games and made 16 starts last year and helped the Lady Statesmen earn their first GSC tournament berth. The Houma, La., native was also named to the GSC Fall Academic Honor roll in 2019.
McGee played in 13 games for the Lady Statesmen, scoring a game winning goal against Spring Hill College in 2019.
Midfielders
Niamh Jestin and
Rainey Niles also represented the Lady Statesmen on the GS Top Newcomers List. Jestin is freshman out of St. Simon Stock in East Farleigh, England. Niles is junior from Pensacola, Fla., transferring to DSU from Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Lady Statesmen are picked to finish fourth in Group A with 12 points. Mississippi College is the top pick, receiving four first-place votes for 24 points followed by West Alabama with 22 point and two first-place votes. Christian Brothers is third followed by Delta State, Alabama Huntsville (11), and Union (5).
Lee University is picked to win Group B with 24 points ahead of Montevallo (22) and Valdosta State (16).
The Lady Statesmen (2-0) open GSC Group A play on Sunday, Feb. 2021 against West Alabama at 2 p.m.
