Lofton, White Named GSC Top 10 Finalists

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University student-athletes ­­Kailyn Lofton and Hayden White are listed among 22 finalists for the Gulf South Conference Top 10 and Commissioners Trophy announced on Thursday, June 3, 2021.
 
Lofton is a senior nutrition major with a 3.76 GPA and has been a four-year member of the Lady Statesmen softball team. The Cleveland, Miss., product started in 43 of 48 games for the Lady Statesmen in 2021, hitting a career-best .308 with nine doubles, two triples, three home runs, and knocking in 24 runs. The Team Captain was a two-time Guaranty Bank Athlete of the Week selection while garnering the Lady Statesmen awards in 2020 and 2021.
 
Lofton is a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member and received the Dickie Taylor Memorial Scholarship while earning her way on to the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 President's List.   
 
Off the field, Lofton is a member of the Student Dietetic Association, serving as the organization's Treasure in 2020-21. Lofton gives her time as a Sunny Senior Volunteer with Alzheimer's patients while helping various fundraising efforts for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She spends her summers as a volunteer coach for the Delta Blaze travel softball team and has been a four-time GSC Academic Honor Roll member (2018-2021).
 
White graduated from Delta State cum laude in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in biology and is currently seeking a master's degree in natural sciences. The Madison, Miss., native earned All-GSC Second-Team honors while starting in all 48 games for the Statesmen in 2021. White also earned GSC and NCBWA Region Player of the Week honors one time during the season.
 
The junior hit a team-best .345 and finished second with 15 doubles, 11 home runs, one triple, and 45 RBI. He was also second on the team with a .599 slugging percentage and a .425 on base percentage. White ranked second in the GSC with 69 hits, fifth in home runs (11) and sixth in RBI (45), doubles (150 and runs scored (47).
 
White has been a three-year GSC Academic Honor Roll honoree and has been on the President's list for all six semesters at Delta State. Whit is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical honor society. In 2020-21, White was the Brett McClendon Memorial Scholarship and the W. Wayne Walley Premedical Scholarship recipient. White was honored by his Statesmen baseball peers as the 2019 and 2021 Statesmen Award winners while also serving as the team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committer the last three seasons.
 
In the community, White is a summer volunteer for the Mississippi Animal Rescue League in Madison, Miss., and a volunteer coach for baseball lessons with the Madison County SportsZone. White volunteers for His Steps Sports Ministries and the ministry for the homeless during his time off the field.

The GSC Top 10 winners are scheduled to be released by the conference office on Tuesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. (CT) followed by the GSC Commissioner's Trophy Winners release on Thursday, June 10.
