FOREMAN DAY ONE RESULTS | ROUND THREE TEE TIMES
CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's golf team is in second place after shooting a blistering 40-under, 536 through 36 holes after day one of the 30th Derrall Foreman Invitational on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021.
Mitchell Fifer and
Landon Carner paced the Statesmen and are within five strokes of the lead in the chase for low medalist. Fifer shot an opening-round 68 and followed the round with a 64 to sit tied for fifth with a 12-under, 132. Carner is tied for seventh with a 10-under, 134, carding a 68-66 through 36 holes.
The Statesmen opened with a 16-under, 572 before heating up to shoot a 24-under, 264 in the second round. Delta State is eight strokes behind tournament leader Central Alabama Community College, who fired a tournament record 259 in the opening round on the way to finishing the day leading the field with a 48-under, 528.
Mississippi College is seven strokes behind Delta State in third with a 33-under, 543, followed by Shorter University with a minus-32, 542. Union (Tenn.) University rounds out the top five with a minus-29, 547.
Jake Kight is tied for 15th with an eight-under, 136 (69-67) followed by
Pongbhop Jamornsrianan (67-71) and Kyle Decenzo (71-67) who sit tied for 22nd at six-under 138.
Landon Cottrell, who is competing as an individual, is tied with Kight for 15th with a minus-eight, 136 (67-69), and newcomer
Deniz Sari is tied for 33rd with a three-under, 141 (73-68).
Alessio Graziani (Mississippi Gulf Coast) and JJ Zimmer are tied atop the individual standings after carding a 15-under, 129.
Mississippi College's Tomas Kubata, JJ Zimmer (Union), and Graziani penciled 63 during day one action, falling one stroke off the Cleveland Country Club and Foreman Invitational record. Delta State's Chad Cupples holds the course and tournament record with a 62 in 2014.
The final 18-holes is slated to tee off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
