Statesmen Golf Names Cottrell as New Head Coach

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State University Director of Athletics Mike Kinnison has announced that Landon Cottrell has been selected as the new head coach to lead the Delta State golf team.

"Landon was well respected as a student-athlete during his playing days here and has a desire to build a career as a collegiate golf coach," said Kinnison. "I feel he will be a positive role model for our golf team members and instill high standards for competition and academics in our program."

Cottrell enters his first season as the Statesmen golf coach and rejoins the #DSUFamily after serving as an independent golf swing instructor throughout the Southeast.

"I am thrilled to be the head coach for this program. There is a rich history of winning here at Delta State and I plan to help the golf program add to that," said Cottrell. "As an alumnus of the school, I am proud of this University and hopefully I can continue to make our supporters feel the same way!"

As a player, Cottrell played three seasons for the Statesmen after transferring from Trevecca Nazarene University. He was a key part of the Trojan's program where he tied for the 3rd most eagles in a season, recorded the 5th best season average in program history, and earned G-MAC Freshman Player of the Year honors for the 2016-17 season.

As a member of the Delta State golf team, the Collierville, Tenn. native posted two top 10 finishes and helped the Statesmen earned a spot in the NCAA Regional, making the program's 9th NCAA Regional tournament in school history as a senior.

In the classroom, Cottrell was a two-time member of the GSC Academic Honor Roll and garnered the Statesmen award as a senior, given to a quintessential member of each DSU athletics team, who distinguishes themselves as the best all-around student-athlete.

Cottrell earned a Master's of Business Administration from Delta State University and also has a bachelor's of Business Administration in general business from Delta State University.
