MURRAY, KY. – Senior
Oliver Gemmel shot the lowest score of any division II golfer as the Delta State University men's golf team placed fifth at The Buddy Championship at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky.
Gemmel tallied 212 strokes (-1) in three rounds putting him in a four-way tie for seventh place in the tournament. The Statesmen shot 859 (+7) as a team which marked the lowest out of the three Division II teams participating in the tournament.
Gemmel started the tournament off with a 72 (+1) in the first round, but followed it up with a 67 (-4) and finished with a 73 (+2). The Eskilstuna, Sweden native had four birdies and an Eagle in his second round. Gemmel totaled 10 birdies in all three rounds.
Freshman
Zach Olsen finished in a three-way tie for 11
th place as he totaled 213 strokes (Even). Olsen stayed consistent shooting 71 in all three rounds. The Germantown, Tenn., native had a team high 11 birdies throughout the three rounds.
Matt Nicell was in a five-way tie for 14
th, as he shot a three-round score of 214 (+1). Nicell started his three rounds with a 71 (Even) in round one. In round number two, Nicell tallied in a 72 (+1) and finished the three rounds at even par with a 71
The Statesmen will finish their fall season next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 21-22) as they travel to Duncan, Okla., to partake in the Hrnicar Tournament hosted by Cameron University.
