BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Delta State Lady Statesmen Soccer team will enter the 2024 season picked 12
th in the Gulf South Conference preseason coaches' poll released this morning by the conference office.
The poll and preseason team were determined by the league's head coaches, who were unable to vote for their own team or student-athletes. The Lady Statesmen received 29 points in the poll.
Junior transfer
Kaley Harden was named to the GSC Newcomer Watchlist. Harden, a transfer from Northwest Mississippi Community College, started in 15 of 22 games for the Rangers helping Northwest Mississippi to an NJCAA Division II Championship appearance.
Head Coach Chloe Kane will enter her first season as head coach at Delta State with nine players who started in 10 games or more in the 2023 season including top three goal scorers in
Ava Webster,
Avery Allison, and
Millie Congerton.
In goal, the Lady Statesmen return senior
Bailey Daugherty. Daugherty had 58 saves along with four shutouts while starting in all 18 games in 2023. Daugherty enters the 2024 season second all-time in program history with 15 career wins
The Lady Statesmen soccer team will open their regular season on Thursday (Sept. 5) as they will host the Lakers of Clayton State University at Delta Field. That match will kick off at 1:30 p.m.
