WEST POINT, MISS. – Freshman
Zach Olsen Started his collegiate career with a third-place finish as the Delta State University men's golf team finished fourth at the Dunning Invitational at the Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point.
After being +17 as a team in the first round, the host Statesmen caught fire shooting the lowest team score -5 as a team in the second round and finished the third round shooting -4 as a team.
After shooting a invitational low -6 in round two, Olsen kept momentum in the third round as he charted a -2 in the third round to bring his three-round total to -4.
Redshirt sophomore
PA Kilburn and senior
Oliver Gemmel were both tied at +5 going into the third round. Gemmel managed to shoot -1 in the third round to total a +4, finishing tied for 14th on the tournament. Kilburn shot even par to be one shot behind his teammate to tie for 17
th in the invitational with a +5-overall score.
Senior
Matt Nicell earned a 20
th place finish as he shot +2 to finish his three rounds with a +6-overall score.
Sophomore
Niko Salmi finished his third round with his lowest score of the invitational scoring a -1.
The Statesmen will head to Hot Springs, Ark., next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 30-Oct.1) as they will participate in The Battle for the Belt, being hosted by Henderson State at the Hot Springs Country Club.
