CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the DSU Holiday Invite with a strong two-day showing inside the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics Center, highlighted by multiple event wins, relay performances, and season-best swims across the roster.
Delta State opened the meet with an impressive performance in the women's 200-yard medley relay as the A squad of
Olivia Murphy,
Pia Delkeskamp,
Janne Bodemer, and
Aspen Shipp touched the wall first with a time of 1:44.57. On the men's side, DSU posted solid relay depth in the same event, led by the A relay finishing third overall.
Individually, several Statesmen and Lady Statesmen turned in standout swims.
Janne Bodemer claimed first place in the women's 200-yard butterfly with a winning time of 1:59.43, while
Aspen Shipp secured the top spot in the women's 100-yard backstroke, touching in 57.24.
Olivia Murphy continued her strong meet with a victory in the women's 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 23.43.
In distance events,
Jessica Gannon led Delta State in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 5:11.97, while
Austin Huffhines captured first place in the men's 200-yard freestyle at 1:39.09. The Lady Statesmen also swept the top two positions in the women's 200-yard freestyle behind
Mikayla Kloth and
Kennedy Cleasant.
Delta State closed the meet with strong relay performances, highlighted by the women's 400-yard freestyle relay teams finishing first and second, and the men's 400-yard freestyle relay earning a runner-up finish.
Delta State continues preparations for the remainder of the season following the holiday break as they'll be back in the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatics Center on Friday January 9
th as they host Montevallo for Senior Day.
