CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University Men's Swimming & Diving team continued its dominant run at the Thanksgiving Invite, surging to
first place with 844 points behind a powerhouse night of finals performances and a statement relay victory.
The Statesmen opened the finals session with momentum and never let go.
Kacper Mochnal delivered a big win in the
100 Butterfly, charging to a
48.22 to pace a strong group of DSU finalists including
Lars Hetzel and
Ashtin Wallace, who added valuable points with top-eight finishes.
The momentum rolled straight into the
400 IM, where
Riley Oakes took command of the field and posted a convincing
3:57.47 to win the event.
Eudald Tosquella followed closely in third, giving Delta State a crucial one-three punch in one of the night's highest-value events.
In the
200 Freestyle, the Statesmen absolutely flooded the A-Final.
Austin Huffhines (1:38.64) and
Mateus Franco (1:38.65) went 1–2 in one of DSU's most dominant outings of the meet, with Hetzel and Rickert also finishing inside the top four. Delta State piled on big point totals here, widening the gap on the field.
DSU's breaststroke crew continued the evening's roll with another set of podium placements.
Jacob Hamblen claimed the
100 Breaststroke title in
54.50, followed by
Ethan Baylin in second and
Neill Mauss in seventh to secure a high-scoring event for the Green and White.
On the boards, the Statesmen added a sweep on
3-meter diving, led by
Santiago Santodomingo's 503.18 winning performance, with Whaley, Bigler, and Croom completing the top four.
Delta State closed the night in signature fashion, capturing the
Men's 400 Medley Relay in
3:16.98 behind the quartet of
Oakes, Hamblen, Mochnal, and Baylin, who out-touched Henderson State to put an exclamation point on the day.
With finals still ahead on Sunday, the Statesmen hold the lead and look to finish on top at the Thanksgiving Invite tomorrow with the Prelims starting at 10:00 a.m.
