Veteran Core and Fresh Talent Fuel DSU Men’s Soccer for 2025 Campaign

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's soccer team is looking forward to the 2025 season, led by Head Coach Austin Jackman, who enters his third year at the helm of the Statesmen.

After finishing 4-6-7 overall last season, including a 3-4-4 record in Gulf South Conference play, Coach Jackman is optimistic about the team's potential and is focused on improving results in the upcoming campaign.

In 2024, the Statesmen netted 20 goals, took 198 total shots with 79 on goal, and recorded five shutouts behind strong performances from the goalkeeping unit, which totaled 54 saves.

Delta State returns 18 players from last year's squad, including senior midfielder Ryan Thistle, who is eager to make an impact in his final collegiate season. The Tupelo native led the team in scoring last season with five goals on 25 shots.

Other key returners include senior defender Santiago Rossi and senior midfielder Alfie Lally. Rossi, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, contributed four goals in 2024, including a clutch game-winner against Alabama Huntsville. Lally, from Manchester, England, added two goals on 19 shots.

The Statesmen will look to fill the void left by 14 graduating players. However, with the addition of 12 newcomers, the team is optimistic about reloading and remaining competitive in the GSC.

Regular season play begins on Thursday, Sept. 4, with an away matchup against St. Edward's University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Austin, Texas
