Werynski Places Second as Statesmen Finish Fifth in the Battle for the Belt

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Delta State University Men's Golf Team placed fifth in the Battle for the Belt with a team three-round total of 878 (+14) yesterday and today at the Hot Springs Country Club.
 
The Statesmen were led by sophomore Ty Werynski, who finish tied for second out of 71 golfers with a three-round total of 207 (-9). Werynski shot a 67 (-5) and a 73 (+1) yesterday afternoon and followed it up with eight birdies in the final round to shoot 67 (-5) for the second time in the tournament.
 
Niko Salmi finished 41st with a three-round total of 225 (+9). Salmi shot even par in the first round yesterday with three birdies in the round.
 
Delta State will take a week off before hosting the Derrall Foreman Invitational at the Cleveland Country Club on Monday, October 20th, and Tuesday October 21st.
