CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University softball team will head to Nashville for a big three-game series in Gulf South Conference action this weekend against the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University.
The Lady Statesmen (12-26, 6-15 GSC) are two games back from the Trojans (12-13, 8-13 GSC), who are in eighth place in the Gulf South Conference Standings and are looking to make a push to keep their post season hopes alive.
The Series will start tomorrow with a double header set for 1:00 p.m. (CT). The two teams will wrap up the series Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (CT) from the Trevecca Softball Complex.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
- The Lady Statesmen look to snap a five-game losing streak heading into this weekend in a big conference series against the Trojans.
- This will mark the first time Delta State will play at Trevecca Nazarene in the series history dating back to 2014. Before last season, the two teams faced off four times in Huntsville for the Charger Chillout in 2014, 2019, 2021, and 2022. TNU leads 6-1 in the series.
- Delta State on the offensive end is led by junior utility player Kyleigh Wheaton. Wheaton has played and started in every contest this season where she is hitting .407 with 35 RBIs, 44 hits, 12 extra-base hits and nine Home Runs.
- Along with Wheaton, DSU has got a solid production in the middle of the order from junior outfielder Carly Dunigan. Dunigan enters this weekend hitting .367 with 11 extra-base hits and six home runs along with 27 runs driven in.
- In the circle, senior Maeve Lavoy has been a key factor to the Lady Statesmen's success in 2026. Lavoy enters this weekend with 98.1 innings pitched with 69 punchouts, a 6-8 record and a save on the season.
- Lavoy has also done damage at the plate as well. She is hitting .373 with 22 hits, nine runs driven in and has scored 10 runs on the season.
Scouting the Trojans
- Trevecca is looking to increase their chances at making the GSC Championship Tournament in May with an 8-13 conference record. Last weekend the Trojans took a game from West Alabama in Livingston 8-4 in the series finale.
- At the plate, sophomore infielder Shay Hollingsworth leads the way for the purple and white. The Huron, Tennessee native leads the Trojans with a .404 batting average with 36 hits, seven doubles, and 14 runs driven in.
- In the circle, the Lady Statesmen will see freshman pitcher Bailey Goad. The Mt. Juliet native has started in 14 games where she holds a 3.49 ERA. Goad has thrown seven complete games while striking out 74 and walking 31. Against UWA last weekend, Goad had thrown 13 innings and struck out 18 batters in two separate appearances.
