Vlad Zinca, a freshman on the Delta State University Statesmen Swimming & Diving team, garners this week's GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week Award after leading the Statesmen to a 135-105 victory over Henderson State University. Â
Zinca, a native of Pitesti, Romania, powered the Statesmen to the win with first place finishes in the 200-Butterfly and 200-Individual Medley events. The speedster hit the boards in 1:54.87 to win the 200-Fly event, while posting a 1:55.52 in the 200-IM. Zinca also contibuted to the Statesmen's win in the 400-Medley relay win, swimming as the third leg of the event.
Zinca and the Statesmen return to action on Feb. 4, as DSU travels to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary College.
