Chris Robinson, a junior running back on the Delta State football team, captures his first CableOne GoStatesmen.com Athlete of the Week award after leading the Statesmen (1-0) to a 50-29 win in the season-opener versus Kentucky Wesleyan College last Thursday, Sept. 1 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium.
DSU's Robinson wins the award after rushing for 162 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the opening week win for the Statesmen. Robinson's 162 yards on the ground are the most for any DSU player since the 2011 season. The junior was able to accomplish all of this on just 13 carries, averaging 12.5 yards every time he took a handoff. Robinson had a touchdown run of 67 yards, the longest rush in the conference this weekend.
Robinson and the Statesmen host No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.Â
