Final Results: Delta State SWD at Centenary
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Delta State University Aqua Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming & Diving program's dropped their second dual meet of the season at Centenary College Saturday at The Ladies and Gents Aquatic Center. While final team scores were not calculated in the scoring, Centenary claimed the most wins on Saturday.
"Saturday we continued to make strides against NCAA Division I competition," said DSU head coach Brian Hein. "Both teams had great competition in every heat and I was very proud of the way we competed. We open play against NSISC competition soon and I believe our schedule has better prepared us for the grueling opponents ahead."
One of the biggest wins on the day came from DSU's Tucker Marshburn in the 1000-Free. The sophomore from Corona, Calif., bested the field by over 10 seconds with a 10:16.55 to claim the win.
Returning All-American Roman Sereda bested the field in the 100-Backstroke with a near perfect performance, hitting the pads in 0:55.54. He also added a second place finish in the 100-Butterfly with a 0:52.33, just .25 seconds behind Centenary's Wladimir Montoya.
On the women's side, freshman
Mary Katherine Waddell had a great performance in the 100-Freestyle with 0:55.08 to earn the victory. Waddell also took a second place finish in the 50-Free with a 0:25.63.
"I was really pleased with the effort of our entire team, but Tucker, Roman, and Mary Katherine really stood out on Saturday," concluded Hein.
The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 at Henderson State University. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
