CLEVELAND- The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen were defeated by the University of New Orleans on Saturday at the DSU Aquatic Center. The Lady Privateers defeated DSU 140-101, and the men's meet was not as close, as the Statesmen were defeated 159-82 by the Privateers.
In the women's meet, DSU won the 200-relay with the team of
Alyce Meador, Ashley Thompson,
Amanda Guidry, and
Mary Katherine Waddell with a time of 1:50.12. The other wins for the Lady Statesmen came in the 100-freestyle and the 3 meter diving event. Waddell took first place in the 100-free, touching the wall in 54.36, while senior Jessie Lockwood won the 3 meter diving event with a score of 215.10. Waddell also took second in the 50-freestyle.
Senior Roman Sereda continued to improve on his outstanding career for Coach Brian Hein as he won two events in the meet. Sereda claimed the 200-individual medley with a time of 1:54.30, and also the 100-butterfly, with a time of 51.16.
The teams will return to action on Dec. 19-21, as Delta State University hosts the annual Christmas Invitational at the Aquatics Center.
