Statesmen and Lady Statesmen fall in opening meet of 2008-2009 season at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Delta State University Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving teams opened the 2008-2009 season Saturday with a dual meet at the Universit of Alabama.  The Crimson Tide claimed the men's meet 171-113, and the women's meet 162-110 at the UA Aquatics Center.  Both teams swam well for the green-and-white, but Alabama took advantage of their home turf in the victories.

The Lady Statesmen, who had a total of 110 points, had several solid efforts. Amanda Guidry finished third in 200 butterfly. Alyce Meador had her best results in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle. Dawn Thompson, in the 200 freestyle, swam well enough for a fourth place finish, and Stormi Valentine finished third in the 100 breaststroke.

The Statesmen were primarily led by Roman Sereta, who put up reputable times throughout the day including his first place finish in the 100 butterfly with a 52.40.
