CLEVELAND- The Delta State University men's and women's swimming and diving team received some much needed momentum Friday afternoon, sweeping conference rival Ouachita Baptist University at the DSU Aquatics Center.
The Lady Statesmen won 141-98, while the Statesmen earned a close victory 129-102.
The Lady Statesmen picked up eight first place victories on the afternoon led by Jennifer Gerasimos, who took the top spot in the 1 and 3 meter diving events.
Sam Farjardo picked up the first win for the home team in 50-freestyle (24.73) followed by
Amanda Guidry in the 200-butterfly (2:10.56).
Mary Katherine Waddell (100-freestyle),
Dawn Thomson (500-freestyle), and Ashley Thompson (200-breaststroke) also picked up individual wins. The Lady Statesmen also finished first in the 200-freestyle relay in (1:40.12).
The Statesmen also picked up eight first place nods. Wolfgang Mairinger got things going in the 1000-freestyle (9:44.79) while also nabbing the 500-freestyle (4:45.84). Justin Ingvolstad continued to stay in fine form, taking the 50-freestyle in 21.34.
Stefan Lackner (400-IM), Roman Sereda (100-freestyle) and David Struble (200-breaststroke) also grabbed first place victories.
Both squads will be in action Saturday afternoon as they take on Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
