Statesmen and Lady Statesmen swimming and diving finishes second at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Louisiana State University swimming and diving teams swept the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving teams on Saturday at the Bengal Tigers Aquatics Center.  The Bayou Bengal Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Statesmen 150-84, while the Tigers swam past the Statesmen 151-78.

Freshman transfer Wolfgang Mairinger got the Statesmen off to a fast start in the Men's 1000-Free with a second place finish.  Mairinger finished the event in 9:39.04, trailing LSU's Sean LeNeave by less than 1.5 seconds.  

In one of the day's tighest races, junior Justin Ingvoldstad finished fourth in the 50-Free with a 21.55, just 0.17 seconds behind the events winner.  

Senior All-American Roman Sereda almost pulled off the upset in the 100-Butterfly, finished second by less than a second with a 50.89. 

On the women's side, Delta State took firsth through third place in 1-Meter Diving led by Jennifer Gerasimos with 196.95 points.  Jaclyn Gerasimos was second followed by Hannah Mantooth.

Amanda Guidry also took second place in the 100-Butterfly with a 59.10.

In the women's 100-Freestyle, freshman Mary Katherine Waddell placed third with a 53.41.  

Delta State takes on the University of New Orleans next Saturday, Jan. 24 in New Orleans, La.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
