NEW ORLEANS - The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving teams couldn't swim past the University of New Orleans. UNO won the women's meet 134-92 over the Lady Statesmen and the Statesmen fell to the Privateers 127-110.
The Statesmen were led by
Wolfgang Mairinger and his two wins in the pool. Mairinger won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:35.20, finishing three seconds better than Jonas Grundstrom of UNO. Wolfgang would move on to win the 500 yard freestyle, beating UNO's Grundstrom and Bo Wullings with a time of 4:41.11.
Justin Ingvoldstad took the 100 yard freestyle in 46.92 seconds.
Adam Milecz touched the wall third in that race with a time of 48.37 seconds. The 200 yard backstroke was another DSU win when
Adam Dajka outswam UNO's Phillip Graeter and John McMahon with a time of 1:53.31.
The Lady Statesmen got a win from Samantha Fajardo in th 50 yard freestyle when she swam past UNO's Catalina Mendieta and Tess Sweatman, finishing in 24.44 seconds.
Senior
Hannah Willis won the 200 yard backstroke in 2:09.55, topping Ashley Aranda from UNO and fellow Lady Statesmen
Calla Kingery.
Coming off the loss to New Orleans, the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen will have to rebound quickly when they host Ouachita Baptist in a huge NSISC matchup between two national swimming and diving powerhouses. The teams will hit the pool of the DSU Aquatic Center Saturday January 16th, 2010 at 1pm.
