TigerSharks too fast for Delta State

Arkadelphia, Ark. - The Arkadelphia swing was not kind to the Delta State Swimming and Diving program. Fresh off their loss to Henderson State last night, DSU dropped a dual meet to Ouachita Baptist by a combined score of 293-148.

For the Statesmen who lost their side of the dual 147-57, junior distance specialist Wolfgang Mairing took second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:46.80) and won the 500 yard freestyle in 4:52.01.

Junior Chris Ashton was the only other Statesmen to win an event when he was two seconds better (10:27.08) than OBU's Will Wood in the 1000 yard freestyle.

Alex Lorenz, the IMer from Germany finished second in the 200 yard IM, turning in a time of 2:02.38. He would also take third in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 53.34 seconds.

The Lady Statesmen fell in their part of the dual 146-91. The future of the program looks bright with wins by freshmen Maria Torres from Peru in the 500 yard freestyle (5:11.12) and Heidi Nichols from Columbia, SC in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.10).

Mary Katherine Waddell, the junior from Florence, Ala., took the 100 yard freestyle in 54.88 seconds. Cleveland's own Alyce Meador continued her butterfly dominance with a win in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.58 seconds.
