No. 28 Lady Statesmen Netters prepare to chase title at GSC Championships

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Three nationally ranked teams are among the eight schools set to battle for the 2010 GSC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship held this weekend in Montgomery, Ala.

The two-day, single-elimination tournament returns to the State's Capital for the third straight year, beginning with the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals on Saturday, April 17th and ending with the Title Match at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 18th. All seven of the women's matches are set for Lagoon Park (locations and times are subject to change).

No. 10 West Florida (11-8) seeks to repeat last year's performance when it upset tournament favorite and No. 1 East Division seed Valdosta State (10-4) in the finals. VSU is ranked No. 4 in the nation after sweeping through the division with a 4-0 mark, including a win over UWF.

West Division Champion Delta State completes the list of ranked participants at No. 28.  The Lady Statesmen are led by 2008 GSC West Player of the Year Cecile Benzaki and 2009 GSC West Freshman Lisa Jamais

Completing the East field is No. 3 seed West Alabama and No. 4 seed North Alabama. Rounding out the West field is Arkansas trio; No. 2 seed Harding, No. 3 seed Arkansas Tech and No. 4 seed Henderson State.
