GSC TENNIS: No. 34 Lady Statesmen gunning for GSC title

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Two nationally ranked teams are among the eight schools set to battle for the 2011 GSC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship held this weekend in Montgomery, Ala.

The two-day, single-elimination tournament returns to the Alabama Capital for the fourth consecutive year, beginning with both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds on Saturday, April 16 and concluding with the Championship Match at noon on Sunday, April 17. All seven of the women's matches are set for Lagoon Park (locations and times are subject to change).

No. 7 West Florida (17-10) looks to take its second title in three years, entering the tournament as the favorite and No. 1 East Division seed. Delta State (12-5), the top seed in the West Division, is ranked 34th and also has designs on the championship. Both schools are looking to dethrone last season's champion Valdosta State (3-11), which is the No. 4 seed in the East this year.

Completing the East field is No. 2 seed North Alabama and No. 3 seed West Alabama. Rounding out the West field is a trio of Arkansas schools; No. 2 seed Harding, No. 3 seed Arkansas Tech and No. 4 seed Ouachita Baptist.
