Swimming and Diving put together strong meet at Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Delta State swimming and diving program wrapped up its second straight meet swimming at a Division I school, improving on times and putting another strong meet together in the pool at Western Kentucky.

The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen combined for eight winners among scoring participants in the event. Karl-Richard Hennebach picked up his second straight win in the 100-Backstroke with a 51.26.

Henneback also took third place in the 100-Freestyle improving his time over a full second from last week's 48.65, finishing with a 47.62.

The freshman was also apart of the men's 200-Freestyle relay winning team, finishing with a time of 1:26.36. William Iles, Yvan Nys and Andy McColl were also apart of the team.

McColl finished as a three-event winner, also winning the 50-Freestyle (21.41) and 200-Freestyle (1:43.98) events.

On the women's side, Stephanie Gonzalez picked up a victory among scoring swimmers in the 100-Butterfly, finishing with a 1:01.90, slightly faster than her time last week at Alabama.

Gonzalez was also the top Lady Statesmen in the 200-Butterfly improving her time from last week, finishing with a 2:16.17.

The Lady Statesmen also picked up a win in the 200-Freestyle relay. Hannah Core, Lelsey Fallstrom, Dani Meerholz, and Shawnee Gundry put together a 1:40.64.

Vlad Zinca also picked up a victory amoong scorers for the Statesmen, winning the 200-IM with a 1:59.23. Zinca's time was over a second faster than last weeks 2:00.75 at Alabama.

Zinca also had a 50.40 in the 100-Fly for a second place finish.

In diving, Conner Bennett edged Matt Swaine in 3-meter diving for the win with a score of 231 to Swaine's 224.85.

Bennett finished second in the 1-meter diving with a 264.3. Swaine took third with a 245.93.

Miles Duke and Bryce Anderson took second and third in the 1000-Freestyle, each swimming faster than last week's pace. Duke swam a 10:08.3, six seconds quicker than his 10:14.3 last week at Alabama. Anderson improved from a 10:19.13 at Alabama to a 10:13.44 today.

Delta State swimming and diving will now have a couple weeks off before swimming in Missouri at the beginning of November. The Statesmen will swim at Missouri S&T on Nov. 2 and both squads will swim at Drury on Nov. 3.
