MOBILE, Ala. – The Delta State University cross country team placed sixth in its second event of the year Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Azalea City XC Classic (6K), hosted by the University of South Alabama. The Lady Statesmen, currently ranked No. 5 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, earned 185 points earning a top ten spot.
“I am very proud of our team finish,” DSU head coach
Doug Pinkerton said. “We ran through some injuries today, but we beat some quality programs. We are continuing to show improvement.”
Stacey Hagenson, a two-time All-Gulf South Conference junior, claimed the top spot for DSU in 22
nd place with a time of 23:51.
Yazoo City, Miss., native
Annalee Pierce claimed 29th place overall with a time of 24:15 to finish second for the Lady Statesmen. Junior
Alyssa Shetley, from Salem, Ill., trailed Pierce just ten seconds to finish third for the Lady Statesmen and 32nd overall with a 24:25.

Kelsey Shumate, from Clinton, Miss., missed the top 50 standings by one second with her time of 25:52 landing in 51
st place.
Tressa Lamb, junior from Arkabutla, Miss. (26:07/63

th), from Biloxi, Miss., finished the race rounding out the scoring for DSU.
The Lady Statesmen will take a week off and are set to race Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Rhodes College Invitational, hosted by Rhodes College, in Memphis, Tenn. The race is set to begin at 9 a.m.
