The Delta State swimming and diving teams have swept their primary rival in the pool in the last three dual meets, dating back to January 2012.

Shawnee Gundry, Laura Nichols, Danielle Dugas and Hannah Core got things rolling for the Green-and-White with a big victory in the opening race, the 200-Medley Relay.

A few races later, Core and Dani Meerholz took the top two spots in the 200-Freestyle. Meerholz edged out her teammate with a 1:59.29. Core finished with a 2:00.94.

Hennebach also picked up an event victory in the 100-Freestyle, winning by 1.26 seconds with a 45.96.

Another strong performance from the Statesmen came from sophomore Ben Vaughan. After winning a pair of events last week in his first race in over a year, Vaughan continued to swim at a high level with a seven second victory in the 500-Freestyle and a second place finish in the 400-Individual Medley, being edged out by teammate Tobias Tombers.

Tombers won the 400-IM with a 4:11.52 and Vaughan finished second with a 4:12.36.

Laura Nichols was a double-event winner on the night for the Lady Statesmen. Laura and Heidi Nichols took the top two spots in the 100-Breaststroke. Laura finished with a 1:07.74. She also took first in the 50-Freestyle, edging Gundry with a 25.04.

Matthew Swaine also took two events Friday, winning the 1 and 3-meter diving events. Swaine led a top-three sweep for the Statesmen in both events. Conner Bennett and Emir Sonmez took second and third, respectively.

Nicole Robinson won the 1-meter diving for the Lady Statesmen, edging out teammate Cherlyn Wilhelm, who took the 3-meter diving event.

The event was full of sweeps for Delta State, including the women's 400-Individual Medley. Swimming in a new event, Maria Torres took the victory for the Lady Statesmen with a 4:43.82. Stephanie Gonzalez took second and Heidi Nichols came in third.

Delta State also picked up a pair of victories in the 100-Butterfly. Danielle Dugas won the women's 100-Fly with a 1:00.44, finishing strong to overtake Mary Andrews of HSU. On the men's side, Vlad Zinca dominated from start to finish, winning with a 49.74. Clayton Boyd took second for DSU with a 52.46.

The victories gave the Green-and-White the Arkadelphia sweep in 2012-13, sweeping rivals Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State in all four dual meets this season.

The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen will now have 26 days before the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships to be held at the DSU Aquatics Center.
