ROLLA, Mo. - In a meet that pitted the top two finishing teams from last season's NSISC championship meet, Delta State lost at Missouri S&T, 121-84.
DSU started the meet off with a victory in the 400-Medley Relay (3:29.97) by the team of
Yvan Nys,
Clayton Boyd,
Vlad Zinca, and
Fabrice Wendel.
Zinca continued his hot streak to start the season, taking another first place finish in the 100-Butterfly (50.96). Nys claimed the individual victory in 100-Backstroke (52.18) for the
only other Statesman victory.
DSU took second and third in the 400-Freestyle Relay to wrap up the meet. The Statesmen fared well with many second and third place finishes in various events, but it was not enough to knock off the defending conference champions. The Statesmen will not have to wait long to enact a measure of revenge as the Miners will visit Cleveland when DSU hosts the Christmas Invitational in mid-December.
The meet did not feature any diving, leaving NCAA qualifier
Matthew Swaine and
Conner Bennett on the side to cheer on their teammates.
The Statesmen were the only team in action today, but the Lady Statesmen will join them in the pool as DSU will travel to Drury University in Springfield on Saturday. The Panthers have claimed nine consecutive NCAA D-II national championships.
