DAY 2 FINAL RESULTS
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The second day of action from the DSU Aquatics Center saw more records eclipsed in the school and pool variety as well as a pair of relay teams posting the nation's number one and two times in the country. The day saw the Lady Statesmen surpass Lindenwood to take the overall lead; the Statesmen sit second behind Lindenwood.
The Lady Statesmen opened the competition with a school record 400 Medley Relay (3:48.69) with the team of
Anastasia Klyarovskaya,
Kirsten Stroven,
Danielle Dugas, and
Hannah Core - taking 13 seconds off of the previous mark set earlier this season.
Kim Barna took third place in the 1,000 Freestyle (10:14.64) with a new school record.
Melanie Tombers (4:19.72) and
Kierstin Page (4:25.62) finished first and third as both times eclipsed the prior school record that Tombers established in the preliminary round.
Klyarovskaya took her second victory in the 100 Butterfly (56.12) while Dugas (56.49) finished third. Runner-up honors went to
Chloe Bennett in the 200 Freestyle (1:54.13) and Stroven in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.19).
The 100 Backstroke saw Klyarovskaya insert her name into school and pool record book (54.93) with a time that qualifies for the NCCA Championship. Page (56.99) took second with a time faster than the national B-Cut consideration.
The Lady Statesmen turned in the nations second ranked time this season in the 800 Freestyle Relay (7:30.73) by Klyarovskaya,
Dani Meerholz,
Maria Torres, and Tombers. DSU also claimed the top time in the nation with the 200 Medley Relay (1:44.04) team of Klyarovskaya, Stroven, Dugas, and Bennett. Both relays are now school records.
Klyarovskaya entered the record books in four events, while Tombers added her name to two more events.
After two days, the Lady Statesmen have the 623.5 - 603.5 lead over Lindenwood atop the team scoring.
The Statesmen turned in eight top times on the season and trail only Lindenwood, 674 - 544.
Matthew Swaine took third (446.20) in the 3 M diving competition.
DSU set a new school record while finishing second (3:18.20) in the 400 Medley Relay by the team of
Yvan Nys,
Tobias Tombers,
Vlad Zinca, and
Fabrice Wendel.
Zinca was victorious in the 100 Butterfly (48.62) while Nys also won the 100 Backstroke (49.70).
Action returns to the pool tomorrow for more preliminary rounds at 10 a.m. with finals to be contested at 5 p.m.
