LIVINGSTON, Ala. - the Delta State University Lady Statesmen Tennis team hit the courts on Saturday, February 2 as they opened up the 2013 season falling to Gulf South Conference rival University of West Alabama, 8-1.
The Lady Statesmen started the day 0-2 in doubles play as they dropped the first two matches, 8-5 and 8-2. DSU would forfeit the final doubles match.
Singles play started with a win for DSU as junior Maria Moya defeated Natalia Cardanas, 6-2, 6-3. The Lady Statesmen would fall in the final five matches of singles play as junior
Erin Teivans was defeated by Jill Furlong, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 in singles two. Sophomore Sandra Tora's singles three match was retired after a score of 6-2, 1-0.
Singles four and five saw junior
Hidemi Mayeshiro fall to Helga Jeske, 6-1, 6-4 in singles four and freshman Hristina Koceva fall in singles five, 6-1, 6-1. DSU would forfeit singles six.
The Lady Statesmen return to the courts on February 15 as they open up home play versus Gulf South Conference rival University of West Florida. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
