Meet Results: Statesmen / Lady Statesmen BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky - Delta State Swimming and Diving competed in the second meet this season from the pool of a Division-I opponent and won ten events against Western Kentucky. The Statesmen were narrowly defeated by the defending Conference USA champions, 169.5-125.5; while the Lady Statesmen lost to the 2014 fourth place finishers from Conference USA, 210-83.
The Statesmen claimed six individual victories to go along with a team win in the 200-Freestyle Relay.
Max PendallVlad Zinca won the first event for the Statesmen with victory by more than two seconds in the 200-Butterfly (1:54.08) to establish a new top time this season for DSU. Zinca is the school record hold in the event (1:47.20) and has the fastest nine swims in the event in Delta State history. Zinca later added a second place finish (50.80) in the 100-Butterfly.
Fabrice Wendel won both the 50-Freestyle (21.69) and 100-Freestyle (47.31) after defeating the swimmers from the University of Alabama last month in the 100-Freestyle. Wendel owns the school record in the 50-Freestyle (20.27) while also having a trio of entries in the top-10 in the 100-Freestyle.
Matthew Swaine won the diving competitions from 1M (240.90) and 3M (240.67) after finishing fourth from both 1M and Platform heights against the University of Alabama. Swaine has recorded school record point totals in both the three and 11 dive completions from 1M and 3M over his first two seasons.
Max Pendall claimed victory (1:54.98) in the 200-Individual Medley to edge teammate
Cody Lavoie (1:57.58) as the duo held off All-American Fabian Schwingenschlogl.
The final victory for the Statesmen came as the 200-Freestyle Relay (1:25.83) team just missed entry in the all-time top-10 list with the team of
Andreas Meuser,
Nick Zorn,
Matteo Fraschi,
Kirsten Stroven and Wendel.
Melanie Tombers claimed a pair of victories for the Lady Statesmen in the 1,000-Freestyle (10:21.01). Her time is eighth in school history and is her third entry in the top-10 times for the event to go along with her school record (10:03.59). Tombers added a second place finish in the 500-Freeestyle (5:04.77).
The Lady Statesmen swept the points in the 200-Individual Medley with Tombers (2:12.13),
Kirsten Stroven (2:20.72), and
Ami Tipper (2:36.74) finishing 1-2-3. Delta State also fielded the two fastest 200-Freestyle Relay teams as
Dani Meerholz,
Hannah Core,
Erin Newman, and
Chloe Bennett (1:41.21) claimed the victory.
Delta State will be off for almost a month in preparations for a trip to Missouri. The Statesmen will compete against Missouri S&T on Nov. 7 in Rolla a day before the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen compete against Drury University in Springfield.
