Lady Statesmen Tennis Returns from Bitter-Sweet Arkadelphia Road Trip

Match Results - Ouachita Baptist / Tarleton State / Southwest Baptist / Harding / Henderson

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - 
The Delta State University women's tennis team is coming off a weekend road trip in Arkadelphia, Ark., which comprised of facing five opponents: Ouachita Baptist University, No. 31 Tarleton State University, No. 18 Southwest Baptist University, Harding University and Henderson State University.

The Lady Statesmen gained their first win of the season, shutting out Ouachita Baptist 5-0. The victory included Hiristina Koceva picking up a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles play, as well as Katharina Assmann and Sophia Niemeyer winning in doubles competition.

On Feb. 21, Delta State lost both matches against ranked opponents dropping a pair of 5-0 decisions versus Tarleton State and Southwest Baptist.

The Lady Statesmen weres shut out again the following day, losing to Harding University 9-0.

Delta State completed its road trip by defeating Henderson State 6-3. Senior Hidemi Mayeshiro teamed with freshman Sara Alvarez to get a doubles victory, winning 8-5.  While Niemeyer collected the 6-3, 6-0 victory in the top singles match and freshman Alex Howe added a 6-2, 6-2 in the number five singles match.

Delta State (2-4) and will face its first Gulf South Conference opponent, Christian Brothers University, on Feb. 28 in Memphis, Tenn., before hosting University of West Alabama on March 7 in the home opener.
