CLEVELAND, Tenn. / ROME, Ga. – The Delta State Lady Statesmen tennis team competed against two Gulf South Conference opponents. DSU was able to get its first win after five consecutive losses by defeating Lee University. However, the victory was short-lived when the 22
nd ranked Lady Hawks of Shorter University gave the Green-and-White another defeat.
The day began with a doubles victory by the team of
Alex Howe and
Katharina Assmann, 8-3. The duo was also successful in their respective singles matches, picking up two more wins for DSU. The final two wins belonged to
Hidemi Mayeshiro and Hristina Koceva. The Lady Statesmen defeated the Lady Flames 5-2, picking up their fifth win of the season and third win in the GSC.
Delta State then traveled south to Rome, Ga. to take on No. 22 Shorter. Unfortunately, DSU were shutout in doubles action and only managed to pick up one singles win. Mayeshiro was able to get her fifth singles victory of the season, defeating Samya El Hsissen. Shorter won 7-1 over Delta State. The Lady Statesmen now has an overall 5-11 record and are 3-6 in the GSC.
DSU's next match will be against the University of Montevallo, followed by two home matches, including a rescheduled match against Stillman College on April 8
th for Senior Day.
