Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – On the second leg of a two-game conference road swing, the Delta State women's soccer team faced off against Alabama-Huntsville. A game that saw seven goals combined, DSU fell to the Chargers 5-2 to fall to 1-7 on the year and 0-5 in Gulf South Conference play.
Scoring from both squads started early. DSU's
Caroline Arrington gave the Lady Statesmen the lead at 7:36, moving past UAH's goalkeeper who was way out in front of her territory and booting the ball to the bottom right portion of the goal frame.
Huntsville's Alex Petermann had the answer in the 16
th minute when she shot a ball from eight yards out into the top left part of the net.
The fast-paced contest continued with
Tais Cotta converting on her third goal of the season, putting the lead back in DSU's favor, 2-1, at the 31:33 mark.
With one minute to go in the half, Petermann totaled another equalizer with a header off of a UAH corner kick, notching the score at 2-2 going into the half.
Fifteen minutes into the second half of play, Alabama-Huntsville struck first. UAH's Melody Dodd fired a shot that was saved by DSU's
Katie Swaine. Dodd attacked again on the deflection, this time getting the shot passed Swaine and into the back of the net. The score was tilted in UAH's favor for the first time in the contest in the 62
nd minute of play.
The Chargers continued their offensive assault with two more unanswered goals to close out the match. The first coming via a header off of another corner kick at the 62:45 mark. The second derived from another Dodd goal, her fourth of the season and second of the game. Alabama-Huntsville sustained the 5-2 lead until the final buzzer.
Delta State suffered the disadvantage in shots 33-13, a season-high for UAH, and shots on goal 16-7. Cotta led the way with four shots, three being on frame. Three Lady Statesmen contributed two shots in Arrington,
Catherine Thomson, and
Taylor Schofield.

Bailey Saebi, and
Erin Tucker recorded one shot each.
The Green-and-White will be back on the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Delta Field in Cleveland, Mississippi when DSU takes on Talladega College. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
