Men's Swimming and Diving Tops Emory

PENSACOLA, Florida – The Delta State University men's swimming and diving team won nine events in a 157-137 victory over No. 3 NCAA Division III opponent Emory University on Saturday at the UWF Aquatic Center.

Short Story: The Statesmen had nine wins and eight runner-up finishes in a narrow victory over Emory.

How it Happened:

The Statesmen opened the meet when the team of Cody Lavoie, Matteo Fraschi, Max Pendall and Mattia Schirru claimed the 200-Medley relay in 1:32.59
Pendall picked up the next victory for DSU, as he claimed the 100-Breaststroke over teammate Alex Peach in 58.84. Pendall earned his second victory of the meet with a 2:07.93 in the 200-Breststroke.
Adam Charlton continued his winning ways, as he claimed the 200-Butterfly (1:54.31) for the fifth straight meet. In his next swim, Charlton won the 100-Butterfly with a time of 51.75.
After a runner-up finish in the 50-Freestyle, NSISC Men's Swimmer of the Week, Schirru swam a 46.13 to win the 100.
Lavoie won the last individual race of the meet with a 4:05.02 in the 400-IM.
NSISC Diver of the Week Matthew Swaine had a six-dive score of 274.15 to earn first place in the 3-Meter diving competition, while William Ashwell finished with a 255.10 to earn his first victory of the year in the 1-Meter.
The Statesmen were narrowly defeated (1:23.05, 1:23.85) in the 200-Freestyle relay to finish the meet.

The Statesmen return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when they host the NSISC Championships.
