Lady Statesmen defeat OBU in first meet of 2016

CLEVELAND, Mississippi –In the first meet of 2016, the Lady Statesmen dominated every event to earn a 158-94 win over NSISC rival Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday, Jan. 9.
 
Off The Starting Blocks:

  • Short Story: The Lady Statesmen defeated OBU 158-94 in the first meet of 2016. The Lady Statesmen dominated the meet, clinching first place in all but one event.

How it happened:
  • The Lady Statesmen earned a 1-2 finish in the 400-Medley Relay. The relay team of Anastasia Klyarovskaya, Kirsten Stroven, Danielle Dugas and Chloe Bennett claimed first place in 3:58.48. Gabby Core, Maria Belisario, Kierstin Page and Melanie Tombers took second.  
  • The Lady Statesmen swept the 1,000-Freestyle with a 1-2-3 finish. Abigail Isom won first place in 11:03.21, while Katelyn Herrera and Maisey Kent finished second and third respectively.
  • Celina Batsel swam the 200-Freestyle in 1:57.56 to earn first place. Hannah Core came in third with a time of 2:00.65.
  • Klyarovskaya, who owns the sixth spot for the fastest time in the 200-Backstroke, won both the 50-Backstroke and 200-Backstroke events.
  • Stroven won the 50-Breastroke and 200-Breastroke.
  • Bennett, who is tied for seventh in the nation for the fastest time in the 50-Freestyle, finished the 50-Freestyle in 24.78 to clinch first place in the event.  
  • Danielle Dugas earned first place in the 50-Butterfly with a time of 27.29.
  • Page also finished the meet with a pair of first place wins. She finished first in both the 200-Butterfly and 200-Breastroke.
  • The Lady Statesmen concluded the meet with a first place finish in the 400-Freestyle Relay.
 
A Look Ahead:
 
The Lady Statesmen return to the pool for a home meet against Henderson State University and the University of West Florida on Jan. 15.
