PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Delta State University women's swimming and diving team turned in a strong set of finals performances Wednesday night at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference Championships, highlighted by multiple podium and A-final appearances.
The Lady Statesmen finished the night strong with a record breaking 200-yard Medley Relay effort from the team of
Kaley Davis,
Chloe Skelt,
Zinna Nimander, and
Olivia Murphy as they won the A-Final with a NSISC Record time of 1:40.07.
Delta State opened the evening in the 1000-yard freestyle with
Rhianna Foster touching third in 10:19.82 to earn a NCAA B-cut consideration time, while
Jessica Gannon added a ninth-place finish.
In the 200-yard IM A-final, Skelt led the Lady Statesmen with a fourth-place finish in 2:05.59, followed closely by
Pia Delkeskamp in fifth at 2:05.66.
Janne Bodemer added an eighth-place showing to round out three Delta State swimmers in the championship heat.
Sprint performances in the 50-yard freestyle capped the night. Nimander earned runner-up honors with a 22.93 NCAA invite time, while Murphy placed third in 23.00.
Ave Owens added a fifth-place finish, and Kennedy
Cleasant and
Mikayla Kloth secured additional A-final points to give Delta State a strong scoring presence in the event.
The Lady Statesmen will look to build on the momentum as championship competition continues in the coming sessions, starting tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.(CT).
