PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Delta State women's swim and dive program turned in a strong third day performance Thursday at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference Championships, highlighted by four top-five finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and a podium swim in the 400-yard individual medley.
Sophomore
Zinna Nimander led the Lady Statesmen in the 100 fly, placing second in
55.20 after posting a
54.52 NCAA Division II invite time in prelims ("54.52 25D2"). Senior
Janne Bodemer followed in third at
55.82, carrying her morning mark of
55.33 into finals. Seniors
Mikayla Kloth (55.92) and
Aspen Shipp (56.11) completed a 2-3-4-5 finish for Delta State.
Bodemer added a third-place finish in the 400 IM, touching in
4:29.12, an NCAA Division II B-cut ("4:29.12 D2 B"). Sophomore
Julia Maciak contributed a B-final improvement, dropping to
4:40.25 from her prelim swim of
4:44.67.
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore
Kennedy Cleasant led DSU with a fourth-place finish in
1:52.61, also a Division II B-cut ("1:52.61 D2 B"). Junior
Ave Owens (1:55.20) and senior
Kaley Davis (1:55.64) added A-final points, while freshman
Rhianna Foster won the B-final in
1:54.48 after splitting
55.75 / 1:25.49 through the 150.
Delta State closed the night with a runner-up finish in the 400-medley relay, clocking a program record
3:41.69, well under the NCAA B-cut standard ("3:41.69 D2 B").
Through 20 events, the Lady Statesmen remain
second with 447 points, trailing West Florida with 614 points.
