HOW IT HAPPENED
- Giulio Brugnoni remains undefeated in backstroke events this year, winning the 200-yard back with a time of 1:53.79. The freshman went out fast, clocking a 26.89 first 50, then hung on to defeat Miner Jarod Dachroeden by more than a second. Brugnoni added a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle, where he was out touched for first by just .02 seconds, and was on the Statesmen's victorious 400 medley relay.
- While Brugnoni is undefeated in backstroke events this year, senior Cody Lavoie leads the Statesmen breaststroke corps. After capturing the 100-yard breaststroke against Alabama and Rhodes already this year, Lavoie proved just as dominant in the longer distance Friday. The senior won the 200 breast by almost two seconds, with a time of 2:08.22; he was also second in the 200-yard individual medley.
- In the 200-yard freestyle, Gabriel Miranda came back from almost a second down at the 150-mark to earn a hard-fought individual win with a time of 1:42.70. The junior followed with runner-up performances in the 500 free and 400 free relay.
- Senior Mattia Schirru joined Brugnoni on the 400 medley relay, clocking a 46.71 anchor leg to seal the win for Delta State. Schirru also added an individual victory in the 100 free later in the meet, with a finishing time of 46.16, and helped the Statesmen to second place in the 400 free relay.
