INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The Delta State University football team debuted at No. 5 in the first edition of the NCAA Division II Football Regional Rankings.
In the Super Region II Poll, the Statesmen (6-2, 4-2 GSC) trail No. 1 Wingate, Gulf South Conference rival West Alabama, along with Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association members Virginia State (6-0) and Bowie State.
For its next contest Delta State travels to Florence, Ala., for a matchup with North Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The top seven teams from each of the NCAA's four regions will advance to the Division II Football Championship Playoff beginning on Saturday, Nov. 18 at campus sites. Sporting Park in Kansas City, Missouri will be the site for the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 16.
