CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Tre Hobbs tossed a complete game with six strikeouts to lead No. 23 Delta State University (10-3, 3-2 GSC) to a 4-1 win over Lee University (11-3, 3-2 GSC) in the night cap of a doubleheader on Saturday at Olympic Field. Geremy Walton 's grand slam as part of a five-run seventh helped the Flames claim an 11-7 win in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM1)
- Emil Ellis reached on an error and scored on a Brian Lane double down the left field line to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Lee answered Nathan Wierzac singled and scored on a Tyler Payne double in the second to tie the game 1-1.
- Drew Johnson singled and scored on a Miguel Pimentel single to give Lee a 2-1 lead in the second.
- The Statesmen scored three in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Juwan Burney singled and scored on a Justin Nussbaum single and Jason Popovich singled home Tyler Brown and Nussbaum.
- Lee scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. Walton doubled and scored when Geremy Walton doubles and scored when Miguel Pimentel grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the fifth. Payne and Spender Mossburg had RBI singles in the sixth.
- Delta State loaded bases with one out in the fifth only to come up empty after a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat.
- The Statesmen took a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh off a two-run home run by Clay Casey and solo home run by Josh Russell.
- Lee answered with six runs in the bottom of the seventh, all with two outs. Payne had a two-run single and Walton hit a grand slam home run to give the Flames an 11-7 lead.
ON THE MOUND (GM1)
- DSU starter Corey Beard struck out eight in 6.2 innings while giving up seven runs on 11 hits in a no decision.
- Bryant Johnston (0-1) took the loss, yielding a three runs on a hit.
- Joe Parete (1-0) allowed one hit with a strikeout in 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM2)
- The Statesmen scored three in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Nick Morgan was hit by a pitch to start the inning and scored on a one-out single from Burney, who later scored on a Shannon single to center.
- Popovich reached on an error to lead off the fifth. Popovich stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a balk to extend the lead to 4-0.
- The Statesmen turned double plays to end two Lee threats in the third and sixth. Hobbs got Walton to ground into a 4-6-3 double play in the third and Mossburg lined into a 4-3 double play in the sixth.
- Hobbs gave up an RBI triple with two outs in the seventh before striking out Cameron Scott to close the game
ON THE MOUND (GM2)
- Hobbs (2-2) struck out six batters while allowing one run and scattering six hits for his second complete game this season.
- Jumpei Akanuma (1-1) gave up four runs on three hits with two strikeouts to suffer the loss for the Flames.
NOTABLES:
- The Statesmen are now 8-1 when scoring the first run of a game.
- Delta state scored 11 runs in two games, scoring seven runs with two outs. DSU now has scored 32 of 68 runs with two outs this season.
- Clay Casey's two-run home run in game one was his team-high third of the year.
- DSU pitchers have now struck out eight batters in 12 of 14 games and at least six batters in 13-of-14 games.
- All eight position players collected at least one hit in game one. Popovich went 2-for-5 and Juwan Burney was 2-for-5 as the only players with multiple hits.
- Burney, Casey and Nick Morgan accounted for the Statesmen's three hits in game two.
- Hobbs complete game in game two was the second of the season and the 10th of his career.
