SEARCY, Ark.-- Tre Hobbs tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout to propel Delta State University (3-0) baseball to a 1-0 win over Harding University (0-3) in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday at Jerry Moore Field.
Justin Nussbaum and
Jason Popovich hit solo home runs in the fifth inning to help the Statesmen claim a 5-4 win in game one.

LEADING OFFÂ
- The Statesmen have won the last nine meetings against Harding after the three-game sweep.
- The Green and White improved to 40-7 overall against Harding and 21-5 at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy, Ark.
- John Wesley Ray, Peyton White, Seth Birdsong and Josh Russell made their Statesmen debuts. Ray earned his first win and White recorded his first save in game one. Overall 14 new Statesmen made debuts in the three-game series.
- Clay Casey, Justin Nussbaum and Jason Popovich belted their first home runs as Statesmen in game one
- The complete game by Hobbs in game two was the ninth of his career while improving to 14-2 for his career.
- Delta State is 305-and 79 against Great American Conference member schools.

AT THE PLATE (GM 1)
- Casey hit a two-run home run and Nussbaum delivered an RBI single to give the Statesmen a 3-0 lead in the second.
- Harding scored two runs in the second and one in the third to tie the game. Connor Kelly delivered a two-run single in the second and Grant Guest had a RBI single in the third.
- Nussbaum and Popovich hit back-to-back home solo home runs in the fifth to break the tie and give the Statesmen a 5-3 lead.
- Harding cut the deficit to 5-4 on a Tyler Mohr RBI single in the seventh. White entered the game in relief of Ray to end the Bisons' bases loaded scoring threat.
- The Bisons left 12 runners on base, eight in scoring position while Delta State left six runners on base, three in scoring position.

ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
- Ray (1-0) had four strikeouts and allowed one run on no hits to get the win in relief of starter Birdsong
- Peyton White recorded the save, working 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing five hits with three strikeouts.
- Harding starter Jackson Ward (0-1) took the loss, yielding five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

AT THE PLATE (GM 2)
- The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Statesmen scored took a 1-0 lead. Nick Morgan walked to start the inning and scored on an Emil Ellis double tow batters later.
- Harding put the tying runs on base in the fifth and sixth but never got the runners in scoring position.

- Hobbs (1-0), who carried a no hitter through 4.1 innings, tossed a two-hit complete game shutout to earn the win for the Statesmen.
- Austin Allen (0-1) was the pitcher of record for the Bisons, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts.

Delta State remains on the road to play Florida Southern and Mount Olive on Fri., Feb 10 and Sat., Feb. 11 in Lakeland, Fla.  The Statesmen and the Mocs play a single game on Fri. at 1 p.m. and Sat., at 2:30 p.m. Delta State and Mount Olive close out Saturday's action with a single game at 6 p.m.
