MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Zack Shannon had a grand slam and 10 RBIs to help No. 13 Delta State University (24-8, 15-5 GSC) sweep a doubleheader from Christian Brothers (9-25, 4-16 GSC) by scores of 22-8 and 11-3 on Saturday at Nadicksbernd Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- Josh Russell worked a bases loaded walk with two outs in the top of the first to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead.
- The Statesmen scored 14 runs on 11 hits to take a 15-0 lead in the top of the second. Zack Shannon drove in six runs in the inning on a grand slam and a two-run single. Clay Casey had a three-run homer while Nick Morgan had a two-run double while two more runs crossed on a Jason Popovich RBI single and Juwan Burney sac-fly.
- Christian Brothers scored three runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 15-3. Casey Goodwin delivered two-RBI single.
- The Statesmen added three runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 18-3. Burney tripled and scored when Brian Lane reached on an error and Emil Ellis doubled home two runs.
- Four more runs crossed the plate for the Statesmen in the top of the 5th. Darek Sargent singled and later scored on a wild pitch followed by a two-run single by Shannon, who then scored on a sac-fly by Ellis.
- CBU scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the game one scoring.
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
- CBU starter Patrick Gurley (1-6) took the loss after giving up 10 runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts before leaving the game after 1.1 innings.
- Andy Borries (1-0) earned his first win as a Statesmen in relief of starter Corey Beard. Borries pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no runs while scattering three hits.
- Jonathan Lindsey worked a scoreless sixth inning with a strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- The Bucks struck first in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Jeff Goodwin singled and scored on a Casey Goodwin sac-fly.
- Delta State scored three runs in the top of the second to erase one-run deficit. Ellis reached on an error and Morgan walked to start the inning. Nussbaum doubled home Ellis and Morgan scored on a wild pitch before Popovich singled home Nussbaum.
- Ellis tripled and scored on a Morgan single to center to stake the Statesmen to a 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth.
- The lead grew to 6-1 in the top of the fifth. Shannon walked and Casey singled to start the frame and after moving up a base on a Russell sac-bunt, scored on an Ellis single to right center.
- A Jeff Goodwin two-run single cut the DSU lead to 6-3 in the bottom half of the fifth.
- The Green-and-White added five runs the total in the top of the sixth to build an 11-3 advantage. Shannon singled in two runs
- Delta State added four runs in the top of the seventh to make the score 15-3. Three runs scored on a Sargent bases loaded double followed by a Morgan single to score Sargent.
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
- Tre Hobbs (4-4) struck out five while yielding three runs on seven hits over six innings to earn the win.
- Peyton Sanderlin (3-4) gave up six runs, five earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts for CBU.
- Bryant Johnston worked a scoreless seventh with three strikeouts to close the game.
NOTABLES
- Shannon's eight RBI's was one shy of tying the DSU single game record of nine while going 4-for 5 with a grand slam.
- Casey went 3-for-5 with a three run home run and Popovich was 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
- Morgan and Ellis had two hits with a double apiece while Ellis had three RBIs.
- The 22 runs and 21 hits in game one were season highs for the Statesmen.
- Shannon's hits in the two games extended his hitting streak to 14 games and his consecutive games reaching base to 26.
- Ellis collected three hits with a triple and two RBIs and Morgan had three hits with three RBIs.
- Shannon drove in two runs on a pair singles and Popovich and Casey had two hits with an RBI apiece.
- Sargent's three RBIs set a new career-high.
- Hobbs earned his fourth on the season, all on the road.
- Delta State extended its winning streak over CBU to 46 games and have won 10 of its last 11 games.
