GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Tre Hobbs tossed a complete game three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to lead No. 1 Delta State University (45-12) to a 4-0 win over No. 3 University of North Georgia (46-11) in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II World Series on Monday, May 29, at the Ballpark in Grand Prairie (TX).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Statesmen struck for four runs. Emil Ellis reached on an error, Brian Lane singled and Zack Shannon walked to load the bases with no outs. Clay Casey's single to center scored Ellis and Lane. Shannon came in on a Juwan Burney double, and Casey scored on a Josh Russell ground out.
- North Georgia put two runners on base to begin the bottom of the fourth only to see DSU starter Tre Hobbs strikeout the next three hitters to end the threat.
- The Nighthawks recorded their first hit and eventually put runners at first and third with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Hobbs would snag a sharp hit ground ball to turn a 1-4-3 double play to end the inning.
- Hobbs would face the heart of the Nighthawks order in the ninth, recording a fly out and two strikeouts to close the game.
ON THE MOUND
- Hobbs (9-4) struck out nine and scattered two hits with two walks in nine innings of work to earn the win.
- Dylan Peppers (8-4) went 7.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in the loss for UNG.
NOTES
- The Statesmen posted the second College World Series shutout in school history and the fifth shutout ever in an NCAA postseason game. The Green-and-White posted a 5-0 shutout to open the 2005 Division II College World Series in Montgomery, Ala.
- Hobbs' complete game was the seventh of the season and 15th of his career.
- Ellis went 2-for-4 with a run scored as the only Statesman with multi-hits in the game.
- Shannon's fifth inning single extended his hitting streak to 21 games and his reached base streak to 51 games.
- Clay Casey's two-RBI single in the fourth extended his reached base streak to 41 straight games.
- Juwan Burney had an RBI double and Justin Nussbaum had a single to round out DSU's seven hits.
