Second Delta Dive Invite Was Successful

CLEVELAND, Miss.-- The Delta State men's and women's diving teams had a very successful weekend hosting the second Delta Dive Invite. Four schools competed in the invitational. On the men's side the University of Indianapolis, Maryville University, and Delta State competed. On the women's side it was the same three schools plus the University of West Florida.

How it Happened:
  • The University of Indianapolis lead the way on the men's side winning the 1M and 3M finals.
  • On the women's side West Florida had the winner on the 1M while Indianapolis had the winner on the 3M.
  • On the men's 1M Payton Staman for Indianapolis, won the event with a score of 575.60. In second was Josh Zylstra of Indianapolis with a score of 504.95
  • Kyle Weesner for DSU came in third with a score of 493.25 which is a high enough score to qualify for nationals.
  • The same three divers took the podium in the 3M but this time Josh Zylstra won the event with a score of 535.65. Payton Staman earned a score of 517.85. Weesner again claimed third with another score good enough to qualify for nationals, 478.05.
  • For Delta State, Nicolas Martin came in fourth in both dives with a score of417.45 in the 1M and 419.80 in the 3M.
  • On the women's 1M, Jesstina Farrell from UWF took the top spot with a score of 423.30. Cassie Kury for Indianapolis came in second with a score of 381.80.
  • DSU claimed the third and fourth spot in the 1M. Sara Andrews had a score of 365.25 and Gillian Pratt came in fourth with a score of 358.65
  • In the 3M finals for the women, it was Cassie Kury winning and Jesstina Farrell taking second with scores of 462.65 and 451.35 respectively.
  • Gillian Pratt claimed a podium spot finishing in third with a score of 411.80.
Up Next:
The Delta State swim and dive teams are getting ready for the annual Christmas Invitational. It will be hosted at the DSU Aquatic Center on December 15 through December 18 in Cleveland, Mississippi.
