Holway Leads Lady Statesmen to 5-4 Win Against Shorter

Box Score ROME, Ga. – The final match of the regular season was down to the wire, until junior Kyra Holway defeated Emily Duggan at No. 6 singles to secure the match point for Delta State against Shorter University on Saturday, April 14.  
 
The Lady Statesmen secured the first match point of the contest as Nathalia Stelzer and Sarah Nash cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. However, the Hawks leveled the score with a victory at No. 1 doubles. Shorter earned the victory at No. 2 doubles to come out on top 2-1 heading into the singles competition.
 
In the singles competition, the Lady Statesmen began to pull ahead. They came from behind to tie the match, 4-4, after Charlotte Le Flohic, Nathalia Sato and Ione' Deroode won in singles. The match win would be decided by the No. 6 singles match, and Holway swiftly won 6-0, 6-0 to secure the match win.
